Zera stumbles slightly as she tries to run down the Eastern beach, fighting tears. Stronger she may be, but she is far from sure-footed and the sandy ground is difficult.

It is some time before she stops, breathing raggedly, and sinks down onto a rock far back from the waves.

He had never sounded like that before. Never.

And she had- Stupid. She knows how important his music is, and still she had interrupted, and...

She wraps her arms around herself. She doesn't dare go back.

Upon recollection, Joar realized that a mistake had been made on his part. While seeming reasonable at the time, when she did not show for their walk, he considered that, perhaps, he had been harsh with the girl.

Calmly walking the sandy ground under the sullen grey sky, her footprints had not been hard to find, Joar slowly walked alone.

He really ought to apologize. She seemed to have taken this all rather badly. This reaction was a bit surprising. A sharp voice in his mind spoke that it was no more vitriolic than his had been when he had spoken to her earlier.

A long sigh as he walked the beach, grey cloak blowing lightly on his shoulders. He ought to at least apologize. A shame to have wrecked something he enjoyed so. No reason for her to continue associating with him, certainly not that.

A shame.

Glancing up, Joar caught sight of Zera sitting on a rock. His face calm as he watched her.

She looked miserable.

Blinking slightly, Joar is taken aback. She looked very upset. He had not realized that she would take it so... badly. Even worse than he thought. A deep breath and he spoke to her, his voice calm and cool.

"Greetings, Zera."

Joar sits down a distance away from her on the rock. His face impassive as he watches the iron-grey waves. A deep breath as he sits and thinks.

He cannot say anything. It just escapes from him as his dark eyes fall to the sand.

Joar shakes his head. Dark eyes looking at her for a moment. A long sigh as his face wrinkled with displeasure. It was nice of her to apologize, though he had been the one to upset her.

"It is quite all right. I ought to be apologizing to you."

A pause, and deep breath.

"I was... unkind earlier."

Putting a hand over his face, Joar leaned over, resting an elbow on his knee and gestured vaguely with his other hand. It was rapidly occurring to him how markedly poor in both taste and judgment his earlier outburst had been.

"No, it is all right. I... lost my temper momentarily. It happens on occasion."

A more sudden, more intense tone in his voice as he turned to her and swung his arm. A look of dark intensity and slight fear on his face.

"No. Please... I enjoy spending time with you. I... like talking with you... and..."

A long sigh as he looked down to the sand.

"I behaved very foolishly, and I apologize."

Another deep breath as Joar glanced out to the ocean. Waving his hand vaguely, his voice unsure and a touch unsteady as he spoke.

"I would be... understanding if, perhaps, you found my company, no longer to be in your interest or good favor."

A pause, and a quick clarification.

"Not out of my own desire, for I do enjoy your company, but rather I would be understanding, if disappointed, if you felt such a way after my recent behavior..."

Joar blinks in slight surprise as he glances up at her from where he sits.

"Oh."

A pause. He found this rather odd that she were still fond of his company after he had behaved so poorly. She was a very sweet girl. Tapping the ground beside him lightly with his hand, he spoke in a soft voice.

"Well, you are free to enjoy it whenever you like. Again, I must apologize, for I do enjoy your company and never meant to give the implication that I did not."

His head drooped slightly as he spoke quietly.

"You are very welcome, Zera. Always welcome, in fact."

A sort of soft smile as Joar confided in her with an almost conspiratorial tone.

"Quite often, actually."

Joar considered for a moment. There were times that you ought to embrace a girl, but he was not sure that he was enough in her favor to do so.

"Zera, have I fallen from your grace enough that I may no longer embrace you?"

A pause.

"Doubtlessly, I will hold you whenever you like, but I do not know if such would be in your favor."

Joar with a calculating gaze glances over at Zera and where he himself is seated. He purses his lips slightly as he attempts to discover an effective way to embrace her.

Drawing a blank, Joar simply sits there looking contemplative.

With a long sigh, having failed completely to come up with an effective yet appropriate way to do so, Joar considered that he ought to simply let Zera decide. It was easier that way.

With a soft smile, Joar held out his arms to Zera. Not a large motion, but an invitation nonetheless.

Joar's hands rise to her waist. It was odd holding her this way. A downward pressure-the weight of his arms and hands. Nothing meant intentionally.

A soft smile on his face.

Adjusting slightly, lest his leg quickly go numb, Joar wrapped his arms around the girl curled in his lap. A soft smile as he glanced down at her. Pulling his cloak tightly around both of them, the breeze off the sea held a chill.

Resting his head against hers, the only part of her visible under the grey cloak, Joar held on tightly to Zera. It was not particularly hard, resting in his lap as she was.

He felt no need to say anything at all. This was apology and resolution enough for him.
